Rummy Rules

Basic Rummy Rules
The Rummy game is played with two to four players. The game can be played for a fixed number of deals are played, or to a target score. The number of deals or the target score needs to be agreed before starting to play.

Object of the Game

The object of the game is to dispose of your cards. There are 3 ways to get rid of cards: melding, laying off, and discarding.

Melding:
There are two kinds of options which can be melded, sequences (also known as runs) and groups (also known as sets).
a sequence or run consists of three or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order, such as 4, 5, 6 or 8, 9, 10, J.
a group or set is three or four cards of the same rank, such as 9, 9, 9.

Laying off:
Adding a card or cards from your hand to a meld that is already on the table.

Discarding:
Playing a card our of your hand on top of the discard pile. Meaning you get rid of one card this way at the end of each turn.

The Play:
In a two player game, every player is dealt with ten cards, three or four players are dealt with 7 cards. Once the deal ends, the next card is placed face up on the table to start the discard pile, and the remainder of the deck is placed face down beside it to form the stock.

At the beginning of every turn the player must draw a card either from the stock pile (cards face down) or from the discard pile (cards face up) and add it to his own hand.

In case a player has formed any melds (a matched set or a run), he may also lay them down on the table face up.

If the player does not wish to lay down a meld, then he discards one card face up, onto the discard pile.

If the stock runs out, the discard pile is shuffled and placed face down to form a new stock.
